Hi, I have a school dance this week with guys that I don't know.
I was wondering, some fast songs some slow dancing, how can I say no to a guy that i don't want to dance with? i said no nicely in gr. 8 lasts year and I felt bad. So should I do a "I don't like this guy" signal to a friend or say I want a drink outside the dance room? Thanks!

Basic dance ettiquette says that if you say "no thank you" to someone who asks you to dance then you sit out that dance no matter who else asks. Dancing isn't dating or showing that you're attracted to someone, its only dancing.

If you say no to someone and then dance with someone else during that song its bad manners and very rude. So, if you turn someone down, then wait until the next song before dancing with someone else.

I always tell somebody no in a polite way. With the kind of dance I do, I will also usually give him a reason and then ask if we could have a later dance. It doesn't hurt to dance with lots of people, even if you maybe don't want to dance with them at first. You may find out that they are the best dancer out there and in general are a nice person to be around and you may make a new friend.

I agree with froggy_m. If you do not want to dance then sit out the dance. If you go to a dance with a date it is OK then to dance only with that person. If anyone else wants to dance with you then they have to ask permission from your date. But if you are not with someone then it is polite to dance with whomever asks you unless you are tired or resting. You may find the person you think doesnt look right to you is the nicest person you will ever rmeet. But if you are as shallow as you appear to be don't be disappointed by what you wind up with.
If I get turned down twice I don't bother asking again. I get the picture, I move on to someone who is more fun to be with.

If someone asks you to dance you don't want to dance with, just say, "I'm going to sit this one out, thank you". It's that simple. I've done it many times. It works wonderful. It's not rude, and yet polite.

Have fun!

Just say "No, thank you". You don't have to say "yes" to everyone who cares to ask. You even said thankyou for their attention to you, so you're fine, no reason to feel bad. You don't have to report to them as of why you said no. Just don't make a big deal out of it.
Working it through "I don't like this guy" is kind of lame in my opinion. It is more respectful if you say "no" just to him rather than spreading it accross the whole room that you don't like this guy just because you're too uncomfortable to say no.
