How they belief on how they came to be?

Are you confused because the two who are the protagonists of the origin stories are a Woman and a Hermaphrodite?
The White Shell Woman was also the Wife of the Sun.

White Shell Woman became known as Changing Woman after she gave birth to the twin boys whose father was Sunbearer. The twins eventually decided to go and see their father and ask his help since people wee being eaten by monsters who were roaming the land at that time. They had to travel through dangerous territory and several talking animals helped them arrive safely to their father's kingdom. Then their father's main wife hid them from their father's wrath because he was known to kill all who came to visit him. Sunbearer found the twins, put them through a series of strict and dangerous tests--which they passed thanks to spirit helpers--and then claimed them as his children. They were then reformed to resemble true humans and given gifts and help to destroy the monsters and save the rest of the humans.
