DodgeCity, Kansas
Circa 1873
"Litlle Jenny"
Doc Adams and U.S.Marshal Matt Dillon were sitting out in front of Matt's office, just batting the breeze and watching the hustle and bustle of the townsfolk. ......."(5) What happened to the love that those two used to share?" Doc just shook his head as he watched Mary and Frank Smith. "Matt?
The real pity is ...Little Jenny. "
"I wish I could lock them up.....But they haven't broken any law." Matt grimaced. He wanted to help them, for Jenny's sake.
Doc: "Not YET!"
Matt and Doc watched as Festus walked over to say hello to the little girl.
Frank yelled,"(6) Don't talk to strangers, Jenny! "
Surprised, Festus said, "Why I ain't no stranger, Frank. It's ME....Festus Haggan."
Frank muttered something as he gathered up his daughter and drove his buckboard out of town.
Festus walked over to Matt and Doc.
Festus:"Matthew, what in tarnation made him think I was a stranger?"
Doc:"Couldn't you smell the booze?!"
Festus shook his head sadly.... "That young 'un is (10) Sugar and spice and everything nice."
Doc:" Trouble is....Her parents are a couple of lost souls. Matt ? Isn't there ANYTHING you can do?!"
"Not a thing."
Doc:"So....We just sit here and watch a (2)sad little angel grow up in a home with miserable parents?!!" He glared at Matt.
Matt:"Doc, I told ya!!! They haven't broken any law . They don't beat her. They love her."
Festus:" I wonder if that young 'un has ever had any (4) Kisses and hugs?"
Doc:"I highly doubt it!" (8) The answer appeared so simple to him......Take Jenny away from her parents and give her a good home. Disgusted, he went back to his office.
That night in the Smith home, the same old pattern repeated itself....Frank stayed out, drinking all night. Mary took drugs that she had stolen from a doctor in Hays ....And Jenny? Well little Jenny was left to fend for herself.....A child living in an adult's world. Lost and afraid, with no idea what to do, she picked up her doll and clung tightly.
Hours later, Frank staggered in. He walked over to his wife who was sitting on the couch. He didn't even notice little Jenny, hiding in a darkened corner.
Frank and Mary started arguing. Jenny ran behind the couch. Shaking with fear, she didn't make a sound.
Frank pulled out his pistol. In a matter of 2 minutes he took his wife's life and his own.
Jenny was taken into custody and in a matter of a month, was adopted by a young couple who lived a few miles outside of Dodge City, proper. Bob and Sarah Jensen adored little Jenny. They gave her all the love and attention that she had never received from her parents. Some say they doted on her......And not one person found fault with that.
One (7) Sunday morning they decided it was time to take her to Sunday School. Jenny was a little nervous, but the Jensens assured her that she would enjoy it.
As she walked into the room, she saw a drawing of Jesus on the cross. She walked over to it, as the Jensens and the Sunday School Teacher watched.
She said, " I know that man up there on that cross. I don't know His name, but I know He got off. Cause He was there in my old house and held me close to His side. As I hid there behind our couch the night that my parents died."
(1) The tears flowed freely as Jenny's new parents held her tightly in their arms.

a mother would always tell her beloved child that the best day of her life was the day of their birth and the love she had was unconditional.
The child and the mother were very close and the child felt so much love from his mom.
As time went by and the child went off to school the mother would always say goodbye and let the child know the love she had for them.
The child soon was older and did not have time for his now older mother and the relationship grew farther and farther apart.
The child who now was grown and expecting his own child
was thinking over his life and how he had acted to his mom
and reached for the phone to let her know he loved her and he apologized to her for what had happened in the past and could she love him still?
The mother's response that SUNDAY MORNING as THE TEARS FLOWED FREELY was that she had never stopped loving him she had always and still does love him unconditionally .
