My mother's side of the family (that is, us, women, great-granny, gran, aunt and mother) are very superstitious.
A few of our favourites:
1. heather brings bad luck, not to be brought into house under any circumstances
2. its bad luck to whistle inside the house
3. a type of yellow flower - not to be brought inside or the house would burn down
4. never to sing Christmas carols outside of season - or else will fall ill
5. not to buy any clothes for an unborn child: may cause abortion
6. not to point a finger at the Moon or it will get mad at you and cause illness. If helps to apologise, though :)
7. Not to laugh or carry on in a forest, or the forest will take offense and make you lose your way
I could go on and on ... I actually follow all those rules and more, they are so deeply ingrained in my subcinscious mind. And many of them do make perfect sense. (Well, agreed, some don't but they still work.)
PS: Thank you for the most interesting question for DAYS!
Can't wait to read what the others wrote.

Do not split a pole. To this day, if I'm walking with my mom and a pole goes between us, she'll turn around and rewalk the path on my side of the pole.
On New Year's, our family eats pork, greens, and black eyed peas. It's supposed to bring luck & money for the upcoming new year. You also open the front and back door to let the old year out and the new year in.

My grandmother told me she could hear the death owl hoot right when her mother died at her house. My husband is suspersitous about birds appearing close to him. I am always in a confrontation with house spirits when I first move some place, it seems they know I'm aware of them and am aware of their attitudes and always challenge me before fading off. I tell them to live upstairs, cause they are bugging me. Its been proven true by the way. My son and daughter also have the same abilities, but deny it, as they often correct me if I say something about a ghost, adding detail.

We keep a broom (besom) turned upside down (bristles up)by the front and back door to guard the house, for protection from evil and wickedness and to bring good luck. Did I mention that my mother is Wiccan, and I follow Celtic paganism.

Not many.
One that sticks out is not to take an old brrom to an old house or you will have bad luck.
Funny as I know it is stupid yet still stick to it and buy a new broom any time we move!
