My drive as you call it, is really just loving my job. I work with awesome people, no politics, in fighting or otherwise. My boss is hands on or hands off as I need him. I don't have a monotony of a routine, but I am not traveling all the time either.
I have found that most publicly owned companies are utter failures when it comes to keeping there employees happy, whereas in my trade a unhappy engineer can set back a project or design YEARS by leaving. A few Companies have had to learn this the hard way. But a few don't. In my varied past I have found that if it you don't find your place in a month you never will.
I try to keep a mindset to cooperate and help any one who asks. You would be surprised how contagious that is. Case in point, a shorter colleague has some storage but is unable to reach most of the top shelf. I most often am nearby, the engineer I replaced was lazy, uncooperative, etc.... And this person would have to go to the storage area pick up a step ladder (she is quite short) and then retrieve the item. When I first got there I saw this take place, now after a short conversation she rarely needs to do this. As well the amount of conversation this created has caused a redesign in the lab to change the way things are stored so that they are easier to get.
But if you or those who surround you are not cooperative, and don't look out for each other, you will not like what you are doing.
I think the bottom line for me is I feel that I am accomplishing something each day, to help myself, others around me, and making the world just a little more fun to be in.

A nagging wife.4 screeming kids.2dogs.1parrot.2 guinea pigs.If you had all these things to drive you .Any job would sound fulfilling. When I set off in a morning a let out a large sigh of relief that I am escaping all of these things for several hours. My employer cannot understand why I volunteer to do all the overtime thats going.Besides I have a crippling mortgage to keep on top of like many other people. The only thing to make me bounce in the morning is the wife. When she jumps on the bed you have no other alternative but to bounce or you would be crushed to death. So its best to rise smartly. On the way home after working for 12hrssometimes I cry.I am also looking for a night/time position then that way I would only have to do weekends at home.Although I did see a job as a comedian and it was weekend work. All is not lost yet.1more great insentive to be up and away in the morning is the mother inlaw. She does give me incentive like you could not comprehend. My job is vital to my stability/

My husband loves his job as a director of information technology because he has been involved with computers since the very beginning of computer technology. He speaks to computers in their own language, and understands them. He also understands why and how programmers make mistakes, and he can explain it to them. He is a great computer instructor, and the company he works for pays him very well for his expertise. He is also on the computer (playing) most of his waking hours at home. He does volunteer work for a volunteer computer security group, and loves every minute of it.
