Chabon is excellent, you should follow your dreams as far as you can, with determination you will get there! Sometimes being obsessed is a good thing.

If you are really into writing, and these are your favorite authors, of course you should go. I'm not a writer, but there are certain authors I would like to meet. Will your parents take you? I can't answer for them, but as a mom, here's what might make me say yes. First of all, do all your research ahead of time. Find out exactly who can attend (is it by invitation or ticket). If you need tickets, find out how much they are. Find out if you can just attend certain events, or if you have to pay for the whole conference. Get information about hotels, driving distances, etc. If it looks like it's going to cost a lot of money, think of ways you can help pay for it. Once you have done all of that, sit down with your parents, and lay it all out for them. Tell them how much it would mean for you to go. Most reasonable parents would make every effort to see that their kids have the opportunity to attend events that really interest their kids, or could help them with their future goals. However, it still might not be possible for them to take you to this one. If that is the case, don't pout, and act like a baby. Try to be mature about it, and your parents will be more likely to honor future requests! Good luck!

I wouldn't call you obsessed, just passionate. How far is Grand Rapids from where you live? Do you have family you can stay with while you're there? Your parents may not be able to accompany you, but if they or you can afford the admission and the plane/bus fare, they'll probably let you go.

ur deffinitly not obbsessed!! that is really cool that u hav a chance to see both of them. i guess it it just depends on what kinda parents your parents are. well i'm not in your same postion but i am possibly going to Wales, Ireland, and England this coming summer and my mom will let me go if i help with paying for it. i will porbably babysit and stuff. so maybe if you help with paying your parents will be more inclinded to say yes. also make sure you get all the info you possibly can about the conferance like about tickets, hotels, how much it is, ect. if you show your parents that you hav done ur research that will show how much your really want to go! and if ur a writer i think that if you can go that it would be great for you!!
hope it works out!

Thats sounds cool man... go for it, since you're a wannabe writer and all.
Ask you parents... most folks love encouraging stuff like that in their kids. At least your not asking to go see a rock band or go to some drug-infested party. (feel free to use that when asking by the way!)

i say go for it. if you like and admire them that much then i think you should go. if you plan on expanding your writing into a career maybe they can help you. just ask your parents and explain to them what it would mean to you, and possibly your future. if you need to get a part time job to pay for the admission. but if you admire them as much as you say, i can tell that you'd be hurt more if you didn't attend

Talk to your parents about it. It would be totally awesome that you get to meet your favorite authors. Slow down and make sure that school doesn't conflict and make sure to bring your book with you (if you go) to get it signed (maybe)

go, if you admire these people and think it would benefit you you should go especially if you want to be a writer yourself. I am training to be an artist at the moment and i am planning to go to Rome and Athens to see famous works of art, i think if you fell it will inspire you, then you should do it.

I doubt you're obsessed, I know people who drive for hours to get to a concert. Think of it that way. I would say go for it! Especially if you are a budding writer yourself!

GO!!!!! It is amazing that you are only in high school and have such a passion! In addition, it is so rare that people get to meet people that they really admire or aspire to---it is an opportunity that you may never have again! GO!
