My son is 6 mo. old. He's been eating 1 tbs of cereal once a day since he was 5.5 (he didnt finish it al in the beginning.) Anyway now he still eats the same amount once a day, and he has a 6.5 oz bottle every 3.5 to 4 hrs., but for the past couple days he doesnt seemed satisfied. Someone mentioned adding cereal to his bottle. So i wanted to know how do i do it and how much with a 7 oz bottle?
I havent started him on stage 1 food yet bcuz he has a doc appt. in 2 weeks and i'll see what he says then.

I do appreciate everyone's advice, but why is it that people dont answer the question you asked? I asked how to mix the cereal and formula and i get "don't do it" i'm sorry but i didnt ask if i should do it or not. For those of you who are going to put that your just wasting your time. And for those of you who have answered with that answer if you saw my question he does eat with a spoon i just want to add a little cereal to his bottle. (just a little to help him feel a little fuller and not at every feeding)

And yes my dr. did suggest it. My mistake was not asking him how to do it.

My doctor had me add about an ounce of ceral to the bottle then add formula then add the water and shake. Since it will be thicker you will need to make the hole in the nipple bigger. I take a knife and make a X cut in the top of the nipple. Be carefull not to make it too big. With all my children I added ceral to their bottle around three to four months of age.

Putting cereal in a baby's bottle encourages them to overeat, which can cause gas and discomfort i.e. miserable mom and baby. He is old enough to spoon feed. It may take a week or 2, but start mixing formula with a tablespoon or cereal, make it pretty watery at first. He will get the picture soon enough.

you must not add food to a babies bottle, a big no no. Try baby rice, its what babies start off eating as their first solid food. 1 tablespoon and a little bit of milk from his bottle will be fine, you dont want it runny or thick, you will see the texture when you mix it up and you will know what texture it should be. You can start giving this to him in the evening before he has his dinner time milk and then gradually start to increase the amount of baby rice and start giving it to him as breakfast, lunch and dinner along with his bottle. Also are you using the stage two milk yet? This will also help.

Never put cereal in your baby's bottle, it's not the way cereal was intended to be used. If he seems hungry after a feeding put more calories in his diet through out the day with cereal. You can try ones other than rice, it may be more filling to your baby, like oatmeal, barley and the such. At six months your baby should be able to handle stage one baby food and even gum on small pieces of dry toast, which is also good for keeping baby teeth healthy.

with a bottle that size you can add 1 tsp. of dry baby cereal into the formula and water and shake the bottle vigorlously to mix. I have a baby too, and I add to her bottle some jarred baby food and mix well and that way they get more food and nutrients. You can add apple sauce etc. too! Almost anything can go into their bottles. Like a smoothie, it is fun to try new recipes you can think up on your own! Have fun with it and don't worry. Linda in Canada.

don't put it in a bottle. He is old enough to be eating it from a spoon. Try increasing the amount you are giving him (cereal that is) at a time, or add another feeding on. Also, you can try baby oatmeal...that seemed to fill my daughter up more than the rice

I put about a 1/2 table spoon in the bottle. And why wait for the dr. if your child seems to want more than a bottle you should try. Take cues from your child, they'll know better than some doctor if they are ready to eat foods.

You shouldn't add the cerial to the bottle, unless your Doctor recommends it. Cerial is a solid and so should only be fed with a spoon. Try upping how much cerial you're giving him and try a couple feedings a day.
