Why not!as long as is not suggested by your mother in law!it will be a unick and very very rare name,i remember an actor called Richard Egan.

I've always loved it. ;) And really, it shouldn't be all that unfamiliar with the trendiness of Keegan (basically an incorrect division of the Gaelic form of McEgan). I'll admit, many without Celtic heritage seem to be unfamiliar with this great, underused option, but it shouldn't be at all difficult once they hear it spoken aloud. Perfectly fitting with more common options such as Keegan, Aidan, etc., but without being at all overused itself. A wonderful balance, in my opinion! ;)

You might also like Ewan and Oran, by the way.

Ps. Please don't bastardize it to Eagan. LOL And regarding some above "suggestions" ... I seriously doubt someone considering a traditional Celtic name will change it to something like Ethan or "Jaden" (properly spelled Jadon), both of which are trendy/popular Biblical names with no Celtic ties whatsoever. Some consider more than just how popular a name is and how "cute" it sounds, and I'm certain heritage plays a role here. It's not all about sound-alikes. LOL

Egan is a Celtic name - more commonly used as a surname, another way you can spell it is Eagan - which I think looks a lot better. Keaghan is another name that you might like - it means "son of Egan" - and I think it's rather nice. :-)

I like it , as someone said it different without being way out there or obviously made up.
I can't see how a child would get teased it is a simple short name.

Hey, if it feels right, go for it. I wouldn't let anyone dicatate what you name your child besides your own gut. Everyone gives their kids names that are conventional and boring, and I think it stinks. I say go for it.
