survival of the fittest is about survival of the fittest...not fairness.

Deeply philosophical question. If by "fair" you mean 'is it in line with the particular moral code you hold', then yes it can be fair, if you believe in the acceptability of extreme laissez-faire geo-politics. If, though, you believe that there should be a degree of intervention by (either) the powerful nations in the world, or the nations acting in alliance together, then the existance of nations being in danger of not surviving is morally repugnant.

I was thinking about that on another scale earlier.

When a nation depletes its agricultural capabilities with overpopulation and receives foreign aid to feed its still growing population, what could the results be? Are they better off without artifical aid?
