No, the Monroe Doctrine was not an isolationists idea. Isolationists believe we should stay out of the affairs of other nations. The Monroe Doctrine states that we should police the world and get involved in foreign wars.

I'm kinda rusty on my history, too, but wasn't the Monroe Doctrine the idea that we wouldn't expand our territories past the west coast? Once the lower 48 was filled in, no more conquest? Please correct me...

hmmm.. i have not had U.S. history in a few years, but i would say no. if i am remembering the right thing, that is the one that the united states announced that any problems in the Americas were the united states to deal with. so it involved the united states with all of the countries in the americas, but it was ment to have europe stay out of the affairs....
well, if i remembered the right thing, than it is not..
