I'm wanting to bid on an item but I plan to do it the day of the ending of the auction.

Can the seller take off the item before the due date?

Yes, he most certainly can and it happens more often when there is no activity on a high priced item with a low reserve.

Yes, there are times when an emergency arises, or the item may have accidentally been broken or given away by someone else so they no longer have it, or there was a family dispute over ownership, or well any of a number of reasons.

Some of the times the seller tells the people bidding what happened, sometimes they don't.

Yes. A seller can remove a listing.

sure, and specific. If I see that they have been quite nasty to human beings earlier, which will unquestionably scare me off. And if curiously as tho they rip human beings off besides, of course, that's a pink flag.
