the complexion of a womans skin has nothing to do with determining if I would consider dating her. I have dated women of different shades of complexion and it always goes to who they are on the inside. I have also dated women of various body types, so that doesn't have much to do with it either. I like a woman who is confident with herself, not afraid to show her emotions, her feelings, and one who likes PDA's

A lot of guys have their perceptions shaped by local culture. In the US, there's been a bias toward lighter skinned women partly because white Anglo-Saxon Protestants who had been here longer tended to have more money than more recent immigrants. And there's also more blatant racial attitudes.

On the other hand, in the UK, there's actually more appreciation for darker women. And I don't just mean "light-skinned" black women, but women who have quite dark complexions and strongly African features. There, almost everybody, rich or poor, is a fair skinned person, so it doesn't connect with status, whereas darker women are deemed exotic.

So it varies with the culture.

EDIT

And just to be clear, the perceptions are changing and I doubt "most" guys prefer fair skin.

Smile. I always thought it had something to do with my personality... Silly me

As strange as it might sound, complexion has very little to do with chemistry... In my humble opinion, all people are attracted to self confidence, a nice smile, to a certain physical type ( whatever that means to each individual ) and an intriguing personality. Glossy hair and a clear glowing skin are sexy, but the color of it all does not make much difference... I do not think so...

I'm a brown skinned girl in the middle of one of the whitest states in the country. I don't find this phenomena. I think it's the opposite; white guys are attracted to me, because of my skin color and the assumptions they make about my personality. It's pretty annoying, actually.

The grass always looks greener on the other side. There are attractive women in all ranges of complexion. Halle Berry is one of the most beautiful women (in my opinion). Zhang Ziyi and Ashley Judd are also gorgeous. All three of these women have different complexions but are beautiful in their own way.

because most guys don't care about what matters the most, which is personality and inner beauty about girl. i don't think its about the complexion of the girl the guys go for, personally i think guys now a days just find the easiest target. the girl that will give them a little more then you might.

if you don't see your attractiveness and your value, no one else will. Guys are not falling for the light skinned girls, they are falling for the girls who love themselves and know their value. If you do the same, men will be falling for you no matter your color. And i know you are not doing the same because you reduce yourself and your inability to get guys to your complexion. apart from being shallow it says alot about how you see yourself: as just a color not as a complete individual.

Oh you ought to see it here in the ME. I bet you on the shelves they have all kinds of products to make their skin paler. You know something that is really sad. They mustn't be thinking of the damage they do to their skin, you know with all that bleaching.
