a niche is a place in the habitat that allows an animal to get all of its resources needed to survive, so i assume that a woodpeckers niche would be in a tree, snake under a rock or logs or underground, a deer in the forest, and cougar in the woods/mountains, and a rabbit underground or woods. hope that helps!!

'niche' generally refers to an organism's habits and manner of living, not just to where it may be physically located. A rabbit, for instance, might occupy a 'field-dwelling, diurnal, grazing herbivorous' niche, or you could define it in some other way, depending on what parameters you considered important.
