Yes this is quite possible some of the worst homophobes are gay men who cannot come to terms with their own sexuality and project their self loathing onto others. You see it all the time on YA
Though things are better for gay men than they were it still takes tremendous courage to come out.

OK, there are a couple of things here that appear to be getting confused. 1) the gay community can be fractured and prejudiced against other members-twinks, bears, leather, fairies, etc are all segments of the gay population and some gay men discriminate against others. 2) internalized homophobia is what happens to gay men who repress their feelings and wind up hating themselves and very often other gay men. Some of the worst abusers/gay bashers are gay themselves and suffer from extreme internalized homophobia.
Hope this helps

I can't decide whether it's homophobia, or residual misogynism, i.e., masculine = good, feminine = bad. I think it's the latter, and it's unfortunate. LGBT people run the gamut, and I've seen decency in every gender expression.

I think they can be very blinkered and judgemental. As your sexuality doesn't stop you being human and being guilty of those sort of failings. As for homophobic? No, homophobia is an irrational and (almost) obssessional hatred of someone purely on the grounds of their sexuality. People dislike 'certain types' of people because it makes them feel uncomfortable about themselves, their sexuality and what others might think of them e.g "All gays are camp queens" However it is not purely on the grounds of that persons sexuality. To me homophobia is about hating someone because they are gay (not because they disagree or don't approve of homosexuality) and would go out of their way to try and make a person's life hell if they believed them to be gay.
Edit - Difference of opinion maybe, but not wrong

Yes...usually due to hating themselves. I feel that the things we hate the most in others, is what we hate about ourselves.
