It may sound cliche, but the key is to relax. Especially your shoulders. It will help you on both levels - physically and socially. Try it at home: tense up your shoulders, and you will notice how uncomfortable you are in every way.
There is a good reason that they teach you ballroom dance in manners class. You want to learn to carry yourself like a quieen. Pretend that you're wearing a crown and somebody is pulling up on it towards the ceining. Stretch your neck up. Smile a lot but don't giggle. Every dancing mistake - yours or his - can be covered up with your smile. Don't feel bad for making mistakes or feeling a bit awkward - everyone in this class feels the same way, even if they don't show it.
Keep in mind that a beginner guy can make your posture uncomfortable, so don't take it necessarily as your personal shortcoming. It is his fault in a way, but don't fault him for that. He will learn eventually. (I can tell you a typical pattern why it happens: he's afraid to step on your feet, so he is busy avoiding your feet. His balance and posture becomes distorted. As a result, his head protrudes forward and you feel "crowded". What happens then - the lady's body has to compensate, her butt sticks out, upper body leans forward and her head tilts back which is uncomfortable. But give it time - you will all learn. Foxtrot is a great pleasure when you know what you're doing.)
Also keep in mind that the guy has difficulties talking to you because he's busy counting the beats and thinking what step is next. Just be assured that he appreciates you following and putting up with his bad lead. When dancing becomes more natural conversatios will become natural as well.

Uncomfortable socially or physically? In either case, that's pretty well what the class is about, getting used to a little discomfort and learning to deal with it comfortably. Posture, especially the "top line" in foxtrot, is a little uncomfortable in spots, but should only be a minor inconvenience, and it pays off in a more comfortable connection and communication. Socially, start with simple and neutral conversations. Your classmates, after all, are there with you, so there's at least something you have in common.
