Aside from being used for entertainment purposes, I think it would send out a strong message. No different than the message sent when they used to hang people in the town square.
It the violators see the consequences of their actions then maybe it would deter them from acting in the future. It would not stop all crime, but it would make an impact. Everyone always thinks that it wouldn't happen to them. Maybe if they saw it they would.
Should it be used for entertainment, no. Should it be on pay-per-view, no. Should people see it, some should. Dying is a personal thing, but they made their life public when they committed the crime serious enough to be put to death. Use them as the example.

While I strongly support the death penalty, I would not support airing it on TV. The only ones that should be allowed to view the execution, are the family of the victim/s killed by the criminal and the authorities.

Although it wouldn't be unusual for executions to be viewed publicly. Executions, especially in medieval times, were considered spectacles and entertainment.

I certainly hope so. Maybe than people can see for themselves what it is all about. Currently out of sight out of mind. Perhaps we could find a capital punnishment supporter who could be the one to pull the switch or signal the beginning of the process of killing another human being. The person selected should not be related to anyone involved in the life of the prisoner. His victim, their family and his family are all exempt. I wonder how many people will support the death penalty if that happens.

With all the violence on television now who would even notice?

I suppose there is always the chance of it happening and their will certainly be those that watched...just look at history and what big events hangings, witch burnings, beheading people, etc. were. The odds.....100-1

No it won't. Please explain your "odds" that favor televised executions?

Dead Marxists, you really should think before you talk. People like you represent a small percentage of the country. Thankfully, every time you say something stupid like that you make our side look that much more rational and reasonable. People like you appeal to the lowest common denominator of humans. You would actually want to watch people put to death? What is wrong with you? Good thing is you don't appear smart enough to harm to anyone but yourself.

Government is getting short on cash. Perhaps they will execute somebody on a pay per view basis. Charging $39.95. The proceeds going to roads and salary raises for legislators.

In our draconian future, who knows?

I doubt it... but it would be on before someone shows some skin again at the Superbowl half-time show.

Hmmm reminds me of Twilight Zone last night.

Creepy.

Anyways it probably won't be because there are so many people that are against it that it would cause too much controversy.

Odds are that it wouldn't be. And why, in God's name, would anyone want to watch someone be executed? Really, that's sick.
