I know someone from near there and he said it's really nice there. But on here everyone seems to think it's a nightmare. It's got the beautiful river medway, and all pictures I've seen of it look nice.
Is it unfriendly/dirty/rough? Or is it just snobbery?
Are there nice people there?

A while back I answered this question as well as I could.Acai you must check out the place for yourself.Everyone's perceptions vary. The first things I would check out are the necessities,i.e. crime, how good and accessible the schools are, the crime statistics, the affordability of housing and its cost, services provided by the local government and is there a cost, etc.Next I would stoll around the areas in which I plan to live. How friendly and helpful are the people for example. What kinds of community activities are available? How convenient are these things?Prepare a list and do the leg work.Otherwise you can never know for sure.I always hear stories but when confronted by anything I am usually surprised.Good Luck

I live in gillingham in kent and there are ups and downs to it. The downs are that yes, there is a bit of a yob problem but its not as bad as alot of places. The high st is a bit crappy but you can get what you want there. Ups. Transport links to london are great 40 mins. The view of the river. I overlook the river. The transport link to london via road is being improved as we speak to be one of the widest motorways in england and will be easily flowing even in the heaviest traffic. There are good things to do here like skiing, there is a dry ski slope and also a real snow one in the winter, ice skating, shopping is good with lots of options (sava centre, pentagon, dockside outlet) there is also lots of historic places to see in the area.

Property is cheap here. Fact. The cheapest place with equivelent distance from london, ie in comparison to reading, surrey and going north from london too.

There is currently alot of investment in the medway towns( the area gillingham sits in) The government is investing £100m a year in the area for the next ten years. They hope to develop it to be like the docklands.

All in all its good. Could be better but its good.
