I have a Yorkie and I would never get anything else. She's 7 pounds and full of energy. Her hair is really soft, like human hair, and she cuddles with me every night when we go to bed.
She's also easy to walk, clean up after, and she only eats one bag of dog food a month.
I like the names Gracie and Tallulah.

It really doesn't matter what breed actually. As long as you be the pack leader of the dog and keep it disciplined right when you bring it into your house. He should be walked twice a day for at least a half an hour.
The best dogs I've had were mixed breed.
Were you asking about breed names or pet names? I'm partial to K-9 names, Karma, Jet, Neepa, Kiwi, Pavlov...

I just got a medium sized mutt from a rescue organization and she is the most amazing dog. It took her a little while to learn she could trust us but now she is the most loyal animal ever. She is also very well behaved in that she loves everyone that comes over and tends to like other dogs.
If I were able to afford a dog belonging to a true breed, I would most DEFINITLY get a Newfoundlander! They originate from the east coast of Canada and are 'gentle giants'. They are often used as rescue dogs and make absolutely wonderful pets. They aren't hugely poplar because they are BIG (although I have seen some smaller ones - that aren't bear sized). Growing up I was a little afraid of large dogs but NEVER of Newfoundlanders because they really are so gentle and even have that gentle look in their eyes.
If I got a Newfoundlander, I would call him Rufus

You have decided that you want to bring a dog into your life. You realize the commitment that you are making. You are willing to invest the time, energy, and money necessary to make this relationship work for you and your future dog. With those decisions behind you there are lots of questions left to answer. In choosing the type of dog you want, you need to consider your specific needs and lifestyle, the space you have, and your activity level. The breed, age, and sex of the dog will also be important factors in your decision.

Are you in an apartment or in the country? The reason I ask is there are the best large breed dogs perfect for companionship but you couldn't keep it very well in an apartment & there are small dogs equally good that would be better suited for an apartment and not the country. Please add additional info.
I have a Boston Terrier. They are good for apartments or country side. They are funny & smart but head strong! I also had a Schnauzer, great dog good for apartment & country. Needs hair clipped every monthand a half.

From experience I have had an irish setter (good if you have lots of property for it to run), a boxer, cocker spaniel, and yorkshire terrier (all three great dogs for homes or apartments). The other breeds I am looking at getting are English Bulldog, West Highland Terrier, and a Weimeraner. Some names that I'm thinking about for my dog are:
Female
Lily
Flora
Athena
Rogue
Karma
Male
Maverick
Aslan
Gideon
Wrangler

How big do you want in a dog. I would recommend a medium sized bird dog. Most likely a spaniel of some kind.
Very friendly, and good looking dogs.
Small dogs bark to much, and big dogs can some times be a hassle... although golden retrievers are always good family dogs as well

I like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I think they are so cute from puppy to adult! They are just really good dogs from what I understand, I've never actually had one. As for names, I can't help you. I always name my pets after I get them. Sometimes a while after. I like to see their personality first. Our one cat is named Evil because he was so mean and crazy when we first got him. We just both said "This cat is evil!"

My dog experiences:
wire haired fox terriers - they are pretty smart, don't shed, and tend to be very loving
miniature schnauzer - they tend to be more vocal, also don't really shed. Mine is overly submissive though.
I look for breeds that don't shed and I also like the ones around the small/medium size border.
