It differs between individuals. However, if you feel sleepy, or tired during the day it usually means you're not getting enough sleep.

I remember sometimes, as a college student, that was really hard to do [get eight or even six hours of sleep]. Funny that you ask because I vividly remember a friend remarking to me once that I should at least get six hours a night after I had commented that with all the work, projects, and activities I was involved with I was finding it difficult to get much more than 3 or 4 hours a night.
And you're are so right, six don't even begin to cut it. There are really days when I need 10 or 12, and I don't even try to fight it. Of course I'm 50 now, which brings to mind another myth that is spread around: i.e., the older you get the less sleep that is required. I guess it is just one of those things that varies from individual to individual.

Everyones clock is different. I've always been the type of person who cannot sleep more than 7 hours, if I do I feel groggy, lethargic, and get nothing done. There was actually a study dont and now they are saying 7 hours of sleep is enough and that those who sleep 8 hours are more at risk for illnesses. Go figure

It is different from person to person. Most doctors will recommend at least 8 hours a night. My norm is 6 to 7. If I get much more than that I will be really tired and groggy the next day. All people are different, if 8 hours works for you, then get your sleep!

I spoke to my doctor about this and he said some people need 4 hours, some 8 hours and some 12 hours. So its different for each person. Seeing as my doctor said 4 hours, 6 hours seems to be okay. Personally, can do anywhere from 7 to 13 hours

I have the same problem. I don't know the answer yet either, but I wanted to let you know you're not the only person who has this issue! I've found that eating very regularly throughout the day, never allowing myself to get too hungry, helps me need less to eat right before bed. Drinking a couple glasses of water before bed is also somewhat helpful. Liquid vitamins have made a bit of difference, but nothing has worked well enough to solve the problem entirely. If you find a solution, will you please email me and let me know what worked? Good luck to you!

I have to get eight hours of sleep myself or I'm really crabby the following morning. I know some can get away with less sleep, so it does vary from person to person.

Don't think everyone should think that 6-hours is enough. Maybe for some people, especially older people less sleep is okay, but for kids more sleep will do them better.
