I WOULD consider it genocide if:

1. It were actually true.

2. You only counted the killing of innocent Iraqis, because killing a terrorist or mass murderer or soldier for the opposition in time of war or even Saddam himself - none of these fit the definition of innocent.

3. It fit the definition of genocide: "the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group". So, is it systematic, or did it happen randomly? Is it moving toward the extermination of a people group? Is it deliberate, or was it unintentional?

Personally, as much as I'm opposed to the U.S. presence in Iraq, I'm pretty offended by the use of the term genocide here. Clearly, you have no idea of the historical context. Things would have to get WAY, WAY worse for it to even approach anything like that. Before we reached that level, there would be a revolution in the U.S. So, stop promoting this crazy idea of the U.S. as a genocidal nation. It's just not true.

To begin with, your numbers are hugely inflated. It is bad enough that reputable sources have placed the number as high as 300,000 without having to invent 700,000 more.

The war should never have happened and the loss of lives has been appalling. I would say ,though, that a majority of these deaths were ¨only¨caused indirectly by the U.S. invasion and occupation. We are responsible for the chaos and lawlessness today that make it possible for sectrian violence to take its horrific toll on civilians. The U.S. is not carrying out a plan to exterminate Iraquis(or Sunnis or Shiites). So no,it is NOT genocide.

Genocide IS what we did to the native-american indian. There are records that show, just to take ONE example from the late XIX century, that the railroads were amenable to employing Indians as scouts, hunters for food and in other capacities but that settlers firmly opposed this because they wanted the Indian ELIMINATED. Not only were they shot and killed but there was a deliberate plan to wipe out their principal source of protein, the buffalo,in order to assure the long term starvation of the noncombatant women and children. THAT was genocide.

This study is one year old

a controversial new survey suggesting that more than 600,000 Iraqis may have died since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in March 2003, is seen by some polling experts and Iraq analysts as the most comprehensive study to date of the cost in Iraqi lives of the U.S. war there.

The estimated number of deaths in the study, conducted by Johns Hopkins University and published today in the British medical journal Lancet is at least 10 times higher than any previous estimate and suggests that nearly 1 in 40 Iraqis has died over the last 3 1/2 years as a result of the war.

BUT I'm sure the armchair warrior aka chickenhawks who have never been there know better

because Iraq changed into listed on u . s .'s "axis of evil" and Haiti isn't. i'm particular that in 50 years time or so, destiny individuals will see that the Iraq warfare changed into an over-reaction and a stupid 10-365 days vendetta. p.s. u . s . and different countries were sending troops in to offer up looting, raping & pillaging, and different crimes linked with aftermaths of warfare. they're attempting to help yet i imagine the Iraqis are not too prepared after what has been finished to them.
