Not by a long shot. It will lay dormant for a while longer. But when the people begin to feel 'shafted' by their so called 'democracy' it will be back.
BTW...The USSR was Socialist and not 'truly' Communist. USSR = the Union of Soviet 'Socialist' Republics.
Socialism and Communism are not the same thing. It was the USA that gave them the 'Communist' brand.

Yes and know.
The Communist Party is still active in Russia as a legal, electoral political party (now called, Communist Party of the Russian Federation, or CPRF). It manages to retain a decent share of the votes and is most popular among the older generation, though to my knowledge post-USSR it's never gotten enough seats to form a government of its own.
In many of the former Soviet republics in Central Asia, you have a different case. The CPs themselves are no longer active, but the current leadership happens to be whoever was the local Party boss before the USSR collapsed. This is true in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikstan at least; it was true in Kyrgyzstan until that government was ousted about two years ago. In Turmenistan too, Nyazov (AKA Turkmenbashi) was the Turkmen CP boss before becoming president. He's dead now.

Not completely...
I say that because there are large portions of both societies that regret the economic transformation from communism to capitalism. There could very well be a revolution within the next 100 years.

There are self proclaimed "Communist" parties in the region. Just like there are "Communist" parties in the U.S. and Canada. But unlike those parties, the have some representation in Russian, Ukrainian, etc parliaments.
Now, if you're talking about Marxian Communism, it died with the Bolsheviks and thus NEVER existed.
