To get the percentage of species that are insects, divide 750,000 into 1,400,000 (i.e., 1.4 million).
My calculator shows .53571.
I bet you can round that and change that into a percent (hint: Multiply times 100).

1.4 million is written in numeric form like this
1,400,000
if you divide 750,000 by 1,400,000 (see below)
750,000 / 1,400,000
you start with fraction above.
You can immediately simplify this into 75/140 If you write it on paper as a fraction, you'll understand how all the zeros cancel out.
You're basically factoring our the number 10,000 from both numbers.
now you have to use long division or a calculator
140 outside the division symbol 75 inside.
your answer is going to look like this,
0.535715428 and the last seven digits in the decimal repeat infinitely.
you can round up to 0.54 which can be written as 54%

OK im pretty sure this answer is right. 54%. i got this answer by dividing 750,000 by the 1.4 million and got 53.5%, and rounded up. Also, you can check the work by multiplying 750,000 by 2 and you 1.5 million, so ya. hope that helps! =D

Use your calculator but write down the formula which you used. Which is 750,000 (Divided By) 1,400,000 (Multiplied By) 100. That will give you the percentage :-)
