While I don't know of any specific requirement that it be inspected by a police officer, it is in your best interest to have it done:
1. If nothing has been touched, they may be able to gather fingerprint evidence.
2. Personally, I would have the vehicle checked for drugs. You never know what was left behind and it would suck to get burned for something that was not yours.

It was still stolen and will be listed as stolen until you contact the police. If you do not report it as found, and the police stop you driving your own car, expect to be arrested for driving a stolen vehicle. And, yes, you will be released once the confusion is cleared up, but do you really need the hassle.
Go down to the police station and make the report.

Depends on the county..... Call the police station to report the vehicle found. If it is required to have an officer inspect the vehicle, they will automatically call one out as protocol....
Frankly, not every county has enough man power to do this... Take Dallas for example... If you have your call broken into, as long as the damage isn't extreme and there is no bodily harm, you don't' even have an officer come out. They just call you back to take the report over the phone. If you request an officer, they will most likely tell you no...

Once it is reported stolen, it's stolen. If the owner finds it, he or she must report it to the police. The car must be processed as evidence. They'll search it, check for fingerprints. The whole process has to be completed before they can return the car to the owner.
That's just the way it works.
Good luck

you want to record it for numerous motives... first of all, they could procedure the motorcar and seek for data. The stolen automobile could have ben utilized in yet another crime, or by using a drug person who left something in the back of in it. you actually do not favor to be held in charge for that. 2d of all, the automobile is contained in the gadget stated as stolen. in case you get pulled over, they're going to do a extreme threat supply up, and also you'll be searching on the agency end of numerous guns earlier you get a threat to describe you're the owner. And, they gained't close the grievance, they're going to easily replace it to mirror it changed into recovered. you may press costs later in the journey that they discover out who took it.

You reported your car stolen, and then you remember wher you parked it?
When I was in college I was trying to report my car stolen, but just before they decided to take the report (after driving me all over town looking where I might have parked and forgotten it), they asked me one last question:
Did I have any parking tickets on the car?
Sure enogh, the car had been impounded for unpaid tickets.
They didn't care to see the car after that.

I dont want to answer this question because I don't want to have to file a police report, or go to court as a witnesses to anything. Thanks for the 2 points though!

I would think the police would want to inspect it, but when you call them to tell them you found it, they'll tell you then or you could ask them.

Have it inspected - definitely. They could come across prints and so forth, why wouldn't you want it to be inspected...?
