Turkey is upset that we are going to brand the mass killings of Armenians in 1915 as "genocide" at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. Would someone tell me why we are digging in the past, and angering Turkey in the process, if we hadn't already addressed the issue almost 100 years ago? Is our Congress that bored that they have no more important issues to address? I'm sure it has something to do with diplomacy, but really, over a hundred years ago?

sorry but its not a distractor as stated. Its political. they want the Turks pissed at us because we fly 90 % of our supplies through turkish air space. they know if the Turks cut our supply lines its just one more obsticle to our activities in the middle east.

and for the libs that will thumbs down this ask your self what else could it be. the cons outweight the pros of making this statement right now about 90 to 0. we get nothing out of it and it will only hurt the military operations. Nothing more nothing less

It is sad to believe that people who live in the greatest country in the world will not support the most significant Genocide of WW1. I wonder if anyone knew that the State Department promised and Gave Armenians lands back in Turkey, but the Turkish Army came and attacked starving woman and children, driving them further east to desolate lands. The only reason Armenians are still around is because of the USSR. They sent half million soldiers to fight the Turks from killing what was left of the population.

They don't... this silly reolution condemning Turkey for the acts of the Ottomans was the only thing the democrats could get through without the threat of a veto. They were hungry for a victory somewhere and they were willing to jeopardize our relationship with Turkey to get that victory. I guess they forgot that our military logistics train to Afghanistan runs through Turkey.
