Since when, my Dearest, has the GOP's stance made sense? They are pro-life provided that the life they save grows up to be a soldier that will die for the Cause. That is the only way they are pro-life -- oh, and religion, let's not forget that, Religion has to get in here somewhere.
Considering that the GOP has one of the broadest tax bases in the electoral college money (especially when it's ours) means nothing to them. They have no concept of it. What they're spending isn't "their" money. They don't spend "their" money., They spend "ours", thereby removing more money from the poor programs and screwing more of us without lube.
Remember: the only good pro-life is to be is so that it can take live babies and raise them to be dead soldiers.

The Republican Party sees the creation of life as a sacred thing. Once created, no man should be allowed to end it. Momma made her choice when she spread her legs. When she got knocked up, her responsibility changed from "yes or no" to doing whatever it takes to bring that baby into the world, alive and healthy.
The Supreme Court, in its infinitesimal wisdom, has ruled time and again that Momma has the right to end her pregnancy at any time before birth. This goes against standard legel practice, though. When a murderer kills a pregnant woman, the prosecutor always makes it a point to mention she was pregnant, to force the jury to consider that two lives were taken, not just one. When a doctor performs an illegal abortion, he is prosecuted, even if the mother wanted the abortion. Millions of dollars are spent by states every year for prenatal care for expectant mothers, but their babies aren't considered "alive" until they're born.
If we are to live in a world where whether to give birth to a child is a mother's choice, why do we not empower Dad to have a fair say in the decision, as well? If Mom is unwed and she can point the finger at a specific Dad, the State is going to expect, and even force, him to support this child, whether Mom wants it or not. When the baby is born, Mom is automatically given custody, unless she has committed some heinous crime recently. Dad doesn't have the boobs, so he has virtually no legal right to custody of the child if Mom doesn't want him to have any. But he still gets to pony up that Child Support. If Mom doesn't want the baby and Dad does, why can't he pay her expenses to have his baby, then give it to him forever?

There are no free abortions and most lower income women can't afford them.
There are very few clinics left in the country in general ( check your phone book see if you can find one- not one in my phone book)- the cost is prohibitive for all but those that have an extra $500.00 or more.
It's not you poor women having them- it's your middle class women doing it.
poor girls can't afford it-
That's why there is free birth control for poor women - if they would just take it!!!
The GOP takes the stand that abortion is murder-
I think even non- religious people share this view
It is the taking of a life
The ? lies at what point does the fetus become a human being just like you and I
I think that any abortion is an avoidable tragedy and I don't want my tax dollars paying for them

The GOP is not pro-life, they are pro-birth. As soon as the kid is born, then it's on its own and they don't care if the kid dies due to a lack of care or resources.
The GOP really only cares about their own views. They don't care about the resulting effects their views have on the world. They subscribe to the "End Justifies the Means" philosophy.....as long as they're not affected or impacted in the process.
The GOPs strengths are selfishness, ignorance, intolerance, and they especially bank on most of their moderate supporters to be uninformed and totally clueless as to what the party actually stands for. The GOP actually doesn't work in favor to many of it's followers, but thankfully many are too uneducated and gullible to figure out the truth.
I've said it once and I'll say it again - Republicans are the garbage of this country and they have destroyed our country.
Vote Democrat in 2008. Do not allow another one of these morons in office.

It is about a coalition.
GOP is formed from a combination of the religious right (which explains abortion stance) and greedy business folks (which explains the tax stance)
They are basically saying:
I'll keep you from the devil if you let me keep the money, not much difference from some historical church practices, This practice is often scorned by intellectuals and pragmatists (who are not part of the coalition)

I went to a very diverse high school. 50 / 50 black and white. All levels of income from destitute on welfare to multi millionaires. It was the only school in a small city. The people who were getting abortions were the middle to upper class girls. The lower class girls were not having abortions. So, from personally witnessing the demographic of who was and who wasn't (albeit on a small level), I think the statements in your question are completely erroneous and based on nothing....if I'm wrong, could you give me some statistics to help me more understand what you are talking about?

You have a lot of company. Much of the Republican base consists of bible-huggers who view abortion as murder, and are trying by any means available to undo Roe v. Wade. If the Republicans didn't have more things right than the Democrats on many other issues, I'd vote Democrat for that reason alone. Unfortunately, they don't.

Once the fetus is born, then they hate it for mooching off welfare and being a tax burden, but for those 9 months before birth, it a potential Marine ready to spread democracy across the globe.

You're overlooking the fact that the GOP has been taken over by the Religious Right. Therefore, logic has nothing to do with it. They're right and everyone else is wrong, period!

LMAO! This is a great question. I wish that I could give you points for it! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! The best part is that the question is very respectfully asked!
