JIM CROCE
My favorite song ever is "Time in a Bottle".
Think what a short while we had him and how much wonderful music he gave us, including "Operator", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", and "Photographs and Memories.
We've had Kris Kristofferson forever, and I can name only one song of his: "Me and Bobby Magee".
So, absolutely, definitely, undoubtedly, it's JIM CROCE.
EDIT: If KK is so memorable, why hasn't anyone gotten his name right? It's Kris, not Chris.
As for the song "For the Good Times", THAT is a lounge-act song. And, how can anyone predict what someone would or would not have done/written/created? Jim Croce had a wide array of songs, from amusing stories to heartbreaking ones. I'll match "Time in a Bottle" to KK's best. Yes, I love the song "Me and Bobby Magee", best performed by Janis Joplin, but even that didn't come near to affecting me in the way that Croce's music did and continues to do so.

To chose one artist would not be fair to either artist. Both artists have their own style of music which makes them worthy of equal recognition.
Plus, Jim Croce died while still making a mark in the music industry. The music he did get to release was and still is very moving. Jim Croce's awesome voice and music was silenced long before it's time, however, Jim Croce and his music will live on forever.
