When a middle or lower class citizen errs, they get the book thrown at them and pay with incarceration and hefty fines, followed by the rest of their lives rigidly controlled by excessive probation officers. When a wealthy or really rich class citizen errs, they get off without incarceration and fines that don't touch their pocketbooks significantly, followed by little or no probation at all.

I don't need to provide any examples, it's all there in every newspaper that you see.

And the ones that are convicted spend a minimal amount of time in prison and return to the spotlight richer than ever. Eh Martha?

Do multiple acts of criminal activity have anything to do with the higher penalty? Start comparing who has been arrested most times and have not learned the lesson. Just because you middle of lower class does not give anyone an excuse to committ a criminal offense. The laws are the same for everyone. Penalty is irrelevent. Why was the crime committed in the first place? Stupidity! Stop complaining about something not being fair. It was not fair to the victim when the crime was committed was it?

it's because the legal code has gotten so complicated that lawyers are always required (people with more money can hire the better lawyers, the better lawyers have more resources at their disposal and a better grasp of the law, this means that people with more money are less likely to be convicted of a crime)

the only solution (which may not be feasible) would be to make the legal code so simplistic that everyone could represent themselves equally before the law

It's been that way for years. That's what you get when the courts are stocked full of cons, a judicial system that favors people with money.

See Paris Hilton, Lindeys Lohan, Nicole Ritchie, OJ Simpson for details.

I was thinking the same thing.

How is everybody's favorite icon these days? I am talking about Paris, Brittney, and Lindsay. How many of us can afford to be like them? I know I can't. My question is why do we care about them when they show us every day that they don't care about themselves. Brittney brought children into the world and chose not to wear panties....what's that all about? Paris speeds to the fast food joint and finally got jail time and says she found God (I hope she did--her actions will soon tell). Lindsay has been in and out of rehab how many times? Now she says she has been humbled??? Her actions will also tell us if she is telling the truth.

Accountability means nothing when responsibility, values and morals are not attached. That's when having $millions gets you out of trouble, just not out of the news like it used to. The elite media says they are newsworthy because people like you and I are watching and wanting more. I say not so. I don't watch and I have Direct TV and have access to all the channels dedicated to them. I am tired of the elite media telling others what I watch and what I don't watch. I want to watch quality not trash!!! That makes me politically incorrect. I say Who-hoo! I don't want to be like the liberals.

It is the difference between being able to afford really expensive representation or a public defender. Go figure.

What, you just noticed this?

Just don't fook up and you wont have to feel the sting of justice on your buttock.

Spirish is correct below though. I just got through a legal and personal nightmare recently and our first lawyer while competent, was a complete boob. We hired a second VERY EXPENSIVE one his knowledge is what changed the outcome in our favor.

The law is utterly effed up and there is so damn much of it that you have to pay for that knowledge.

BTW, I ain't rich.

Rich people pay higher taxes that help society as a whole more. So it benefits us all more to not punish them so much.
