You enjoy a number of things that our government supplies for the good of all of us, whether you use them or not.

You have (I presume) running water, you were able to attend a public school (whether you did so or not), electricity, you either use public transport or you drive, you are protected by our armed forces, your food and drugs are kept safe for you, etc.

All these things cost money.

Not everyone has the ability or the opportunity to get a college degree.

I don't know anyone who chooses not to work for a living. I do know some retired people who worked all their lives and now get social security; I know people who are taking care of a child with a life-threatening illness who can't work because someone must be with the child 24/7; I know people who have cancer, who have burned through all their insurance coverage (doesn't take long, trust me), and who can't get treatment now unless someone else pays...

What I am getting at is that most people who have to accept help had no other choice. Charity helps some but it is not enough for many.

No man (or woman) is an island. We all rely on each other. There are people taking advantage of the system at every single level; if people at the bottom are stealing, it's very little in comparison to folks who cheat on their income taxes or steal from their companies/employees/shareholders.

Liberals call you greedy because you have the audacity to think you know better how to spend your money than the government does.

They call you greedy because liberals believe ALL money belongs to the government and you're taking more than your share if you make more than minimum wage.

Liberals call you greedy because you feel entitled to your income as a reward for your hard work and sacrifice. You don't deserve to be rewarded. Those who dropped out of school at 16 and made a bunch of babies they can't afford deserve to be rewarded at your expense.

Your charitable contributions aren't enough and you only make them because you feel guilty about being successful. Those who aren't successful are suffering because of your success!

Sorry dude, reality has nothing to do with it. If you want to be rich AND be left alone, you have to hold a seat in congress.

That is the price you pay for living in this country. So are you saying every person who gets government assistance choose not to work or choose to be poor? Not everyone has the opportunity to better themselves you know.

Also, there is alot of welfare that you pay for that are not for people they go to big coporations. It's called coporate welfare. So if you want to whine, you should probably whine about that too.

I as much as anyone else don't like paying taxes either, but that's just the way it is.

you know... more often than not it's your tone that probably gets you in trouble with the "liberals"... when you take the approach "I worked hard for my money why can't THEY"... and that whole "get a damn job" attitude... yes there ARE people who take advantage of "the system" ... and we pay for it... that's wrong... but not everyone is provided the same advantages that you may have had... there are those who can't afford to get your "masters degree"... who live in a depressed inner city... and grew up with a single mom working 4 jobs and a dead beat dad... and then lose their leg in Iraq fighting for your country because the military was the only option they had ... ... for the people who truly need... I'm happy to help with my tax dollars... obviously nobody likes to be taken advantage of... maybe that would be a better way to say it....

One dollar of every hundred you pay in taxes goes to aid those in need of public assistance.
80% of those receving assistance are children who can't earn their own living.

By contrast $4.00 of every hundred you pay goes to service the national debt. And $1.30 of that is just the portion of the national debt that has accumulated just since Geroge Bush took office.

So if you are complaining about the pennies the government asks you to pay to help poor children, but are OK with a long term debt for wars and tax cuts that costs you more and will be costing your children and grand children, then I think you might qualify as selfish.

Thank you for saying what many of are thinking. Why would anyone want to work hard and obtian a well paying job if the goverment would bail them out? Why would anyone want to work harder just to get make money taken from them?

In fact many people already abuse programs designed to help out needy people so why should we make it easier for them. Jobs don't come find you, you have to go get them. It's like were screwing up natual evolution by making it impossible to fail.

Um, yeah, I haven't called you greedy, I don't think anyone should. Its good that you always try to better yourself. So do I. Like Zardoff said, maybe you should turn off the media. And you obviously don't have a masters in English. ******* forget it.

You waste far too much time posting nonsense on Yahoo to be considered a hard worker and obviously didn't earn a Masters degree in English.

Anyone who hates taxes is greedy to them. They are only generous with other people's money. Here is the truth...

Conservatives give more because they care. Liberals have been attacking Conservatives with absolutely nothing to back that up with. Because we believe government is inefficient and corrupt? Does that make us greedy????

I see some Libs complain about Corporate welfare. I do not know one single Republican who is for that. Both party's do it! Most Americans oppose it. I am for freedom, and that includes economic freedom. Liberals want to take that from me, so I will not be able to give money to the charities of my choice, but rather their choice. Some freedom.
