By your reasoning, half of the country does not work and is being supported by the other half of the country. Holy crap! I've been getting screwed for the past ten years! I'll quit and my family and I will live off the $300 a month I can get from welfare. That's the sweet life! Except, I can only get welfare for a few months, and then I'm cut off, but what a few months it will be!

No, it's because they're tired of the Republicans who want to drive on freeways, have mail delivered, have their food inspected, have their cars licensed, have police protection or utilize any number of government services without having to pay for it. Cons think they should get all of that stuff for free, no taxes!

"Liberals" understand that you don't get something for nothing, and that if you want to live in an orderly nation that has a properly maintained infrastructure without collapsing overpasses that you have to pay for it. They would like it to be paid for by the people who are actually utilizing the system right now; that's the opposite of the conservative method of borrowing money from other countries or from future generations.

What? That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. I don't know anyone that likes paying taxes, let alone more.
I for one want to see the money we pay now used responsibly. I want the rich to keep their hands out of it. Don't think for a second that they aren't there with their hands outstretched. I'm working and going to school. I recognize that a lot of the services the government provides cost money such as education and roads/bridges. They are in serious decline. We need a solution to healthcare. The ideal solution would be to follow Dennis Kucinich's plan. We need our jobs back and all current trade agreements terminated. We need to negotiate with each country.

In order to pay for the War, this country has had to borrow billions from China. This is not good at all for America's future. The Democratic Party recognizes this, and wants Americans to share more of the burden for the War that most Americans support.

It is called a balanced budget; why not ask how the republicans are going to cut taxes? Who is going to suffer to balance the budget and who or how are we going to decrease our deficit without a tax raise or a recession.

Oh I am a republican by the way ... Regan managed to raise taxes and get re-elected.

Way to go BIG R.

I'd like to temporarily raise taxes to finance this war....I dont agree with placing the debt for this war on my kids down the road...call me old fashioned but I believe we should all make a sacrifice.

< is a working Democrat.

No, that's not the reason. But someone has to pay off all this debt we've accumulated over the past 7 years.... or would you rather sell more of it to China?
