Don`t American`s realize that they could easily pay for health insurance with the money they save if there was no income tax... There would still be taxes on earnings, just not your labour.. Don`t you know taxing your labour is slavery according to your own constitution! I`m Canadian and our health care (run by the gov`t) sucks.. people are dying on waiting lists.. You wouldn`t believe how many people don`t even have a doctor.

I agree that the IRS should be abolished and that our working wages should not be taxed. Obviously, if some form of consistent incentive pay remained in the medical community, health care should remain in is current state. Earnings from corporations and stocks have always been taxed, the Income Tax is a new item placed in the early to mid-20th century when the American public didn't know any better. If you want real issues and results check out Presidential Candidate Ron Paul and see what kind of Revolution can happen to truly have a free country!

I don't quite understand the distinction you are making between "income" and "earnings". You say abolish the income tax yet also there would still be taxes on earnings. Huh? That's all we pay taxes on.
Secondly, I don't understand what you mean by taxing a person's labour. There is no such thing as a tax on labour. It's not the labour that's being taxed, it's the dollars earned as a result of that labour. Labour in itself cannot be quantified, and therefore cannot be taxed, except by the money the person earns. Proof of that is, money you earn even without doing any labour at all (like interest on a bank account), can be, and usually is, taxed. Therefore the amount of labour involved is irrelevant.
Finally, taxing labour (whatever that is) is not slavery. Slavery is forcing a person to labour without paying them for it. Now, if the government taxes 100% of the money you earn, that may qualify as something morally close to slavery, but it's still not quite the definition.

I'm in favor of abolishing the IRS. The bureaucracy it creates results in tax dollars wasted. We could eliminate the IRS and institute a simple tax code, or simply a "Fair Tax" like Mike Huckabee is suggesting. If we eliminated other federal entities that were more of a waste than a benefit, such as the Department of Homeland Security - didn't we already have a Department of Defense? - then Huckabee's proposed national sales tax could be lowered to probably 15% or less. Imagine the check from your employer actually paying you every cent that you earned. Yes, the individual states would then have to find their own way of funding. But I would think that it would be easier to save money rather than living paycheck to paycheck and waiting for the income tax return every year. I like Huckabee's "Fair Tax" idea, but I'm voting for Ron Paul because I like the idea of abolishing the IRS and several other wasteful federal government programs even better.

Most Americans don't even know that a much smaller federal Govt. did just fine financially for 86 years, supporting itself by collecting tariff money and a form of excise tax.
Ron Paul, a U. S. history expert, & the ranking member of the Congressional finance committee, knows and understands that taxation is simply a form of extortion which takes from one class of people & after taking a huge bite, distributes to another segment of the population, and many times it's the already wealthy military industrial complex.

Even though it may be illegal they will come after you with artillery, dogs and trumpted up charges if you aren't donating to the 'war' fund. Pres JFK was going to abolish the FedReserv but didn't make it. He's in heaven, at least he didn't give in to some things, can a honest Pres be allowed I wonder.

We could also afford to provide health care for all citizens if more than half of our federal taxes didn't go to the military.
And you're correct, only about 5% of the federal taxes go to infrastucture; the rest is state taxes.

I actually kinda like the IRS. Which is kinda strange for a Libertarian. But i do think that the federal income tax code needs to be simplified a bit. there are too many ways to figure it, and too many loop holes. If you have too many rules, you will always have people finding cracks and loopholes in the system.
TO "The Dude": That was WAY too long for me to even care to read that. Sorry, but I had to give you thumbs down so it didn't take all day to scroll up/down the page. Plus i hate people that blatantly copy and plagiarize, without putting answers in ones own words.

I don't see the wisdom behind removing the IRS. Anyone that has tried to explain this to me has failed (if you have a convincing argument, email it to me). The government needs money to function, surely removing some of this will affect its ability to do so. The IRS collects a lot of money too, that's a lot of money that won't go towards something.
