Does any one else think the smoking bans in California is getting out of control?

Now they are saying that you are not allowed to smoke in your own car if there are minors present, I'm so glad I live in Nebraska, the only place we are not allowed to smoke is in public buildings. So were does everybody live and what are your smoking rules in your state, which ones do you agree on and which ones do you think are a little extreme?

I live in California and am all for the new law. Why expose the little ones to second-hand smoke when you know it's been proven to be dangerous?

I think it's a good idea to not have people smoke in enclosed spaces such as cars with children present, but they probably smoke in their homes anyway so it doesn' t really matter. I think it's one step from coming into peoples homes and telling them they can't participate in a legal activity (smoking). It's not fair to the kids they are hurting, but where does the line stop? I live in Indiana and only one city has passed the law against smoking in cars with minors. The only place we can smoke are buildings that minors are not allowed. I think it's pretty crazy, why not just make cigarettes illegal then?

Although I'm a non-smoker, I don't like the direction it takes us.

These are what I call "warm fuzzy" laws - in this case they give the anti-smoking camp the warm fuzzies, as they think they've got one over on those awful smokers.

In reality, it's one of those laws that will almost never be enforced.

Also, and this is a point that many of those do-gooder legislators who voted to pass this stupid bill probably haven't considered...
.... When a police officer has to stop a car on a busy road for any reason, there is considerable risk to both the officer and the occupants of the car, including, I might add, the very CHILDREN these IDIOTS are trying to protect.

Texas...I never smoked in my car when my kids are in it..they don't need to get cancer from my second hand smoke...but that's just being a good parent.
There should be no place outside that you cant smoke except on school grounds or near something that is a fire hazard.
I was going to say church, but Sister Peter Marie would get mad at me because she needs her little toke over by the rectory walkway every once in a while.

I think so. I find alot of these things are. Why can you go get drunk and act crazy, drive crazy, shoot guns and blast music and these are not as bad!! You may ask why I say the music, a child was hit by a car, because a person driving another car turned to look where the music was from and never saw the biking child. And these things happen every day. Or at least where I live.

I don't think people should be allowed to have guns, smoke, talk on the phone while driving, etc etc, but the freedom to do those things is what makes this country great. as long as the majority of people know that it's wrong to shoot people, smoke around kids and not do distracting things while operating a car, we'll be fine.

I think it is great that California passed the new minor law. But to ban smoking in bars is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I live in Oregon where it gets really f*ckin' cold and rainy in the winter time and if I am going to the bar, I expect there to be smoking.

I think it's fine to ban smoke around other ppl. the person smoking has every right to kill themselves, but why do they have to subject everyone else to it?? Second hand smoke is WORSE than the smoke the smoker is inhaling. I'd rather die from something else. I wish they'd ban it here.
