You know after living in Germany for over eight years i do not see what the fuss is..
Over there it is legalised .. the girls are screened each week for std ..
They have their own places to go to so they are not on the streets ...
They are not owned by pimps and the sex crime rate is very low

It definitely should be legalised. As long as there are men who want to pay, for whatever reason, there will always be women to sell them the service. The women need protection and health care.
Same goes for drugs legalise the lot. If you do drugs, get yourself down to the docs and register as an addict and get your daily fixes at the chemist. It costs buttons to produce and the country would save a fortune in dealing with all manner or drug related crime and other stuff. Old ladies wouldn't get knocked over in the street for 2 quid in their handbags, etc, etc.
Sensible people who do not do drugs would not rush to take them just cos they are free, no problems.

A question for Mike - How would you like to go lie on your back and have someone take HALF your earnings for it? get a grip on yourself.
Whatever the resident with holding tax is for your country (IE what a contractor would pay) is the maximum anyone should be made to pay in terms of tax up front, but then you have the intangible factors, like how do you know how many jobs a working girl has declared through the books? or how many "cashies" she has done?
Also the flip side of being made to pay tax is that she should be allowed to claim on all legitimate working costs - who is going to set those as justifiable or not? How many pairs of undies, fishnets, dresses, makeup, hooker shoes... yada yada yada .... does a girl need? who is going to quantify that?
Its not as easy as just 'taxing the crap' out of them.
As for 'making girls register for medical checks' - well you would find that the reasonable girls will WANT to look after themselves - their body is their biggest work asset, isnt it?
Street girls with drug and alcohol problems will (usually) never fall inside that category of responsible and even in a country like NZ where it has been legalised, there are STILL A NUMBER of street girls in places like Auckland who have drug problems etc too profound to work inside parlours and clubs. Legalising is a partial solution - not an entire one, and yes, I think it has a very valid place in society.
I would rather that if my man was going to stray (god help him!) he did it with a working girl who would use condoms and kick him out the door after an hour and only be counting the money, not some girl he might have met at work or in a bar who may potentially hop in and out of bed with everyone she meets, shagging unprotected, and trying to steal away someones man because she thinks thats the way to go about it!

Wow, I'm amazed at the number of people for legalisation. I really didn't expect that, and from so many women too. But I agree. It's never going to go away. So, legalise it, tax it, make sure it's only in designated areas, ensure it's safe, healthy. And for god's sake get rid of the stigma attached.

Legalising it and having brothels would certainly keep most of the ladies off the street, it would also make it possible to keep proper health records regarding those that use the brothels as a base, (each brothel will of course have to be registered first) this way it will hopefully be safer for those that visit such premises for sex.

They should be allowed to work legally in certain designated areas.
It would protect the women and the client and they could be checked every so often for social diseases.
I think a lot of men take a big risk when using these women's services, who knows what they contract and pass on to a wife or partner,
I think it is a nonsense to keep it illegal when there is obviously a call for it.

Yes ! Have thought this for ages. Look at Holland. They have legalised brothels (a horrid word I may add !) the government requires them to have health checks and so in doing so keeps them safe. Oldest profession in the world.

Why not. It seems to work in other countries. The prostitutes are checked each month but that's only the registered ones. You will still get your prostitutes that work without declaring it but that's to be expected. In places like Amsterdam they have a good procedure in place.

legalize it, medically inspect the girls, keep them in Red Light or Tenderloin Districts, tax the heck out of the earnings, like 50 %, and not only does crime and violence go down...but since it is the world's oldest profession and will always be in demand, everyone's taxes should be reduced from the river of money that will legally go to state and federal coffers. The tax money would also pay for the mandatory health inspections. This is WIN-WIN for everyone.

The fact is you can`t stop it and anyone who thinks they can is delusional and living in cuckoo world so you might as well make it safer for the girls and clients.
A few advantages of legalisation, health checks girls needing a licence stopping spread of disease, safe environment for girls, no pimps getting girls on drugs and taxes
