I just recently bout my 05 chevy cobalt 2-door LS and I LOVE IT!! however i did purchase it from a shistey dealer and I have owned the car for almost 2 months now, and I was just curious about the shifting. It is a automatic and i have noticed it shifts a little hard going from 1st to 2nd gear but any gear after that i dont even feel it when it shifts.....

an ideas? is that normal? if not how do i fix it or what needs to be fixed...?

and I dont know if it matters any but it only has 33k miles onit and i bought it with 32k miles on it...

if it is an 05 with 32k on it, it may still be under warranty. You wont be able to check the fluid unless you know where the inspection plug is under the car. The transmission(4t40e) does not have a dipstick. Sometimes thes transmissions have problems that cause the pressure control to default to high pressure. Thes most often will NOT turn on the malfunction indicator lamp.(service engine soon). i would have a trained transmission tech, preferrably GM, drive the car and scan for codes. If he says it ok, at least you have record of a gm tech checking it out in case you have a problem down the road.

You could get some new booger bushings. They help the shifting in you car. Don't ask the dealer though because they will make you buy something else for like 10x the price. Booger bushings only cost 15-20 dollars. Or if you have warranty, bring it in.

Hmm, another pos chevy. I have a 2006 cobalt ls w/5speed manual tranny and its currently in the shop with bad syncronizers.

My advice is to get rid of it and buy a toyota camry. They cost a couple grand more but you have more standard features, and 1000x more reliable.

I made the mistake of buying a chevy and trading in my old Mazda pickup that had 220,000 miles on it , biggest mistake I ever made.

Check the fluid just to make sure it is clean and full. Other then that, it is normal. They do have a firm shift.
