Yep. I give it 3 years. They've got a core of really good young talent with Gordon, Smith, Butler, DeJesus, Teahan. They need to find some more power for their lineup. Without that horrific slide in September this year, KC was on pace to improve by about 18 games over last season. Thats a huge improvement. They need to get another solid middle reliever to replace Greinke (because he'll be back in the starting rotation) and a big power bat - preferably in left field. We've got a couple good catchers in AAA and one of them should be able to replace LaRue and hopefully hit better than the .148 he gave us. So yeah, a couple improvements here and there over the next few years and we'll be contending again in KC. Dayton Moore is saving Kansas City baseball. None of this would be possible if that dumbass Allard Baird was still the GM.

The possibility is there because they have a good core group of players. The problem is that the owners are not going to spend money to get there so the more likely scenario is that they will, once again, waive goodbye to their young stars that trot of to teams willing to pay what they are worth in today's market. As the old saying goes, "you can't squeeze milk out of a turnip" and I believe we will all see the Royals fans continue to suffer along with their team because the owners won't do what they have to do to create a winner.

Not in the AL central, the toughest division in baseball. I think that Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota will be competing for the title every year for a while. Chicago is out of it and Kansas City dosnt have enough pitching depth to survive.

The Royals have done a good job of putting themselves in a position to compete in the AL Central. The signing of Gil Meche to a 5 year contract was widely criticized, but it shows the organizations commitment to winning, and considering his success this year, it also demonstrates an ability to recognize exceptional ability.
With Mike Sweeney, Jason LaRue and Reggie Sanders coming off of next years payroll, that leaves an additional $21 million to commit to long term contracts for their young players as well as the ability to make one or two key free agent acquisitions as well.
As long as they continue to remain patient in allowing their core young players to develop, and they don't overreact by overpaying for mediocre free agent talent, leaving themselves hamstrung and unable to compete in the future, they should set themselves up to be competetive for a lot of years.

I hope so. They always seem to develop good players but can't hold on to them. If memory serves Carlos Beltran and Johnny Damon began as Royals.
I'm not a Royals' fan but I think a Royals- Pirates WS would be good for baseball.

I lived in KC as a kid - remember those glory days of the 70's and 80's? There is no reason it can't happen again.
Anything can happen in baseball...........I would like to see someone like George Brett or Albert Pujols come in - someone you could build a team around..........a strong leader.

they could but they would really need to step it up. they only really have a lot of rookie and young players. they would need to win a lot more games. they are compared to all the big names like the yankees and the red sox!! they r in a small and not as common state compared to new york and they would just have to be a lot better than they were this year
