Check the manual that came with the machine and/or call Maytag. The load size is usually by weight, and doing something like filling a tub with heavy towels can accelerate the wear on the bearings -- it's just not designed to accomodate a horribly heavy load.

Im guessing that whether you have this teenager or not, most of them dont know which end to put the clothes in anyway lol !!

Joking apart, if there isnt a 'guide' out there, I would say that filling it three-quarters might be a good guideline. That way you will ensure that the clothes that do reserve their place will actually come out clean. Cos if you overload it, then the clothes will probably not wash properly anyway, and will need to be done all over again.

You could try feeding the washer name into yahoo or google searchbar and see if theres a PDF folder that you can have a look at. But if not, stick with the safest and most logical option... three quarters MAX

The manufacturer says to load the clothes loosely, to the top of the agitator, by dropping them in. This means to not wrap them around the agitator, & not to "pack" them down. This would be for the largest load setting, which you should use every load because the machine uses about the same energy on small or big loads.

Always wait until you have a full load in order to save on electricity and wear and tear on your washer.
Clothes, etc, should be put in so they fit quite loosely. If you pack them too tightly, the soap won't get rinsed out adequately. Also, too large a load will tax the mechanism which runs the agitator.

Normally, you should never load clothes that reach the top of the middle spinner. I would make linemarks along the spinner with something permanent to show them what amounts of clothes equals which amount of a load.

If the device is sort spanking new, the manufacturers deploy a delivery brace in the unit to maintain the bathtub from banging around whilst in delivery. do away with the back of the unit via eliminating the screws via utilising a elementary screwdriver or a one million/4 or a 5/sixteen socket. Go to Maytag.com, give the model number, and ask for a manual.

OR --

Tell the teen small is for socks and underwear, medium is for shirts, large is for pants and jeans and skirts, and extra large is for washable jackets and hats. Tell her/him the water in the tub should allow the items to have plenty of room for water to move through them without effort, even if it means two large loads for pants, jeans and skirts.

Here is what I showed my girls to do.Open washer, turn on to start to fill, add detergent(half of what is called for).Allow to fill and start to agitate, then add clothes one piece at a time til they stop sloshing around, but still moving.Close the lid and wait....It worked after doing it like that a few times they just knew how much.Sounds childish, but it worked..
