I have noticed lately that every time I get gas, the pumps are SO SLOW...annoyingly slow...at first I thought it was the one station where I was going, but then I 'd go to other stations, and theirs are slow too.

So, I figured the only assumption I could make is a conspiracy by the oil companies! They have rigged the pumps to pump slow so that it doesn't seem like we're pouring our money out so fast...you know? Instead of taking two minutes to put $20 in the tank, they slow the pumps down, and it takes five - i.e. it 'seems' like we're getting more gas.

Are your pumps slow? Would the oil companies think we're that stupid? Are we?

no i have not noticed that often. allow me to explain something, though. gas pumps have filters in them, rather like the oil filter on a car. when those filters get old they slow the fule flow. it MAY be that the station is cutting costs by replacing those filters less often.

I'm not the primary gas refiller in my family, but on the rare occasion I go (yesterday) I didn't notice it being slow.

Wow. That is an impressive conspiracy theory! I would have never thought that might be the reason.
