The answer to that is the same as the one to an even better question. Why is anyone a liberal?
The truth is not in them.
Even on one of the response's someone makes the accusation that Republicans serve the rich and they intern live off the backs of the the poor and middle class.
The truth is the poor live off the rich and the middle class has always paid more in taxes than they should thanks to liberal Democrats.

I think it is because she is perceived as a 'fighter'... and after losing the last 2 elections, (esp. in the way they were lost), I think Democrats just want to WIN again.
I don't think that Democrats have thought far enough on her candidacy to really consider what her baggage means to most people in this country.
Also, as with the Republican Party leaders, I don't think that the Democratic Party leaders are as concerned with what is best for the COUNTRY as they are with what is best for their PARTY, which is simply 'being in power'.
Finally, I think that if you are a Republican, you should be scared to death about Hillary. I don't think that the GOP has a candidate that can beat her, other than Ron Paul (Hillary's worst nightmare), and the Democrats probably know it, and so they blindly support her...
So in answer to your question, I think most Democrats don't care if she would make a good president, they just want a Democrat in the White House.

The second part of your question is just smarmy trash, but to answer the main part, many, if not most liberals don't think Hillary would make a good president.
They do think she'd be better than any of the idiots the Republicans are going to put up, and probably has the strongest election machine. I don't support her, don't want her as president, and won't actively support her at any time, but if it comes to her vs. Thompson, Guiliani, Romney... it will be an easy vote.

I don't think she will make a good President... I personally think/hope the poll numbers are wrong. I always hear many of the Democrats that I know say they are voting for Barack Obama. I don't know many people who are going to vote for Hillary. It seems Barack has a bigger, stronger following. I hope thats the case, I don't want Hillary (I might vote Republican if she's nominated).

This was a serous question until the last part. BUT
It's not so much that she will make a good president, but I'll vote for anybody who is not a republican at this point. I've had enough lies to support a war, enough feeding of the rich at the expense of the working poor and middle class, and enough intolerance and bigotry.
Vote ABR (Anybody but a Republican)
