this is strange to me. you know where the male and female parts of a rose are. thats where new rosebuds are growing. I'd show you a picture if i could.

Oh, that's not a bud. That is called a "hip" and it contains the seeds.

These will eventually swell up and turn bright red. The birds and squirrels love them and they are also edible for humans as well.
