My best advice is to get some kind of pet, like a fainting goat, or some mutant cow. When you're away from home, sometimes it's hard to be around so many people who don't care about you, as opposed to only a few who don't care about you. Deranged animals can help you deal with this.

Awwww. Hang in there!!!! I promise it will get better. My first year i went home every weekend!! Just keep telling yourself "Independence is good...i can do whatever i want!!" I remember my parents did not have time to help me move into my dorm..i was going to school about 2 hours from home...and i forgot my pillow!!! I had a complete meltdown!! Being homesick is natural...and totally ok. chances are there are more people around you that feel that same way then you think. Try and fill your time, do something..anything!!! Heck..do EVERYTHING. grab a friend and hit that open lecture about 17th century printing techniques. Ya it will probably suck..but you can sit in the back and snicker. And the later crack up about the fact that the guy had a crappy toupee and his shirt was tucked into his underwear!! Just remember...think about how many new college students there are this year that are in your same shoes. No one is going to look down on you for being homesick, most everyone around you can understand!!! HANG IN THERE!!!!

The best advice I can give you is to get involved. When I went to college, I left the city where I had grown up and went to another state on scholarship. I did not know anyone. I got involved in activities, kept busy, made friends, and soon, I found myself driving around a three state area on weekend to see friends at multiple colleges.

College is a time to learn and grow. But only a small part of that education comes in the classroom. Experience college!
