It was amazzzzing. Totally shows you how unfair life is and how men can be selfish assholes when given what they want.

I dont feel as though I am generalizing because, if someone loves you, you should realize before you are on your death bed. Fact is he treated her badly when she was the one who bore his children and took care of him and the other girl was treated as a princess when she did nothing but spend his money.

I don't think that was love, regardless of what he said.

I think he was incapable of love and she gave it unconditionally.

Again, I haven't read the book in 8 years or so... but yes, it's AMAZING!

It is a fantastic book. And P.Buck herself was an amazing woman, winning both the Pulitzer and Nobel Prizes in her lifetime.

I am also a big fan of Isak Dinesen's "Out of Africa" and "Shadows on the Grass", and Beryl Markham's "West with the Night". You might enjoy those, too.

You are being misleading. The ancient New Testament manuscripts when compared to more recent manuscripts showed that the newer ones did have a few interpolations (that did not affect doctrine by the way) and a number of spelling mistakes. However, all modern translation of the New Testament are based on the oldest manuscripts and modern scholarship shows that they are reliable and true to a degree of 99.5% or better. That is the good thing about having manuscript evidence, it allows for one to study and provide evidence of their claims instead of trying to get away with saying whatever they like. The same cannot be said about Mormonism since the Mormons themselves admit that almost of their original manuscripts were taken away by the angel Morini. Interesting, a few of the supposed manuscripts that formed parts of the Book of Abraham in the Pearl of Great Price have been discovered. Modern study has shown unequivocally that the words of the Book of Abraham have no correlation whatsoever to those found in the Egyptian papyri on which the translation of Joseph Smith was supposedly based. This draws into question Smith's ability to translate ancient languages and suggests that at least with the Pearl of Great Price he was committing a fraud. To make matters worse, stylometric studies show with a high degree of certainty that the author of the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham are the same person.

Sweety..."The Good Earth" is one of the finest books ever written and the film is beyond compare. I believe you are generalizing a bit too much with your reaction to Wang Lung! In those days, wealthy men had more than one wife if they so chose and as many concubines as they wished. Upon Olan's death Wang Lung is redeemed through his last words on that rainy night. He realized then, what Olan had meant to him through all the years they were together and that the rest was but a frivolous attempt to live the life of a Nobleman rather than the farmer he truly was. Let the movie, with Paul Muni and Luise Rainer (Academy Award Winner) bring it to life for you.

Are you kidding? That is a wonderful book. The true plot is even after this guy was a jerk he realized that his wife had been so important to him and his family. Like the good earth itself. He came to understand that she was the most important thing in his life. All of her books rock. There are two movies made from books that she wrote. i think that you can find them in most libraries. Watch them after you read the books. They are pretty good.

I have read the entire series of the publications of Pearl Bucks novels. She basis her story from the factual history of the events she includes in her work. It has been a long time ago, tho, and your question has inspired to read them again. Her work is excellent.

I totally agree, I have read it a couple times since reading it first in High School. A classic.

I had to read it in school and couldn't enjoy it due to the fact that we always had to tear the story apart line by line to find meaning.
I think I'll give it another try, though......we did the same with "To Kill a Mockingbird", and I reread that recently and thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
