In the distant future it is predicted that by 2013 a supercomputer will be built that exceeds the computation capability of the human brain. By 2023, a $1,000 computer will be able to exceed the capabilities of the human brain. It is also predicted that by 2049, a $1,000 computer will be built that can exceed the computation capabilities of the human race.

run programs that haven't been written yet...
seriously, computers don't "do things" other than execute the bits we put on them. The programs that developers write, either for people to run, or for devices to communicate, are what do things for us.
And as for what new programs will exist in the future - if I knew that, I'd be writing them.
Lots of people talk about thinking computers. I have my doubts about truly thinking computers. But I do expect that there will be more and more programs which look, to the user, as if they were thinking.
