It's a family name, but I wonder if people will think we named him after Nelson Mandella or Nelson off the Simpsons...

What do you think?

A great name for a member of the human race.

Nelson is a great name! It's strong and not too common. Being a family name makes it even more special.

I did think of Nelson Mandela... I agree with the others, though, that's a good connotation. I didn't think of The Simpsons, but I did think of The Cosby Show. One of their twin grandchildren was named Nelson.

If you like the name, you should go for it!

Good luck with your baby!

Nelson Mandella instantly popped into my mind. That's not a bad thing though.

I think if you try to base the name on whether a celebrity/historical figure comes to mind, you're going to lose out on a lot of great names.

Your son will be Nelson Yourlastname, unless you take the rather odd choice of using Mandela as his middle name. I think it's very nice to use a family name and the people who matter (his family) will think of that, not of some yellow cartoon character.

no worries, go with what feels right to you!

I thought of Nelson off the Simpsons, then I saw you'd put biracial, then it occured to me what that meant - reading too quick, I just skimmed over it lol - and then I thought, Oooh Nelson Mandela.
:s
I don't think everyone would think that unless you said about it. maybe have it as a middle name?

Hi Jen! I honestly think of the punk kid from the Simpson's :) But if you were asking what race I think of, nothing specific comes to mind. I knew a Caucasian man named Nelson, but it doesn't seem black or white to me. Hope this helps :)

If you have any Question about the name I wouldn't use it. I try to pick names that I don't have to question. or second quess my self for using you could still incorporate it as a middle name though. Like Avery Nelson ------or Joshua Nelson ------!
