you could indeed be picking up on the other girls' cycles
it's nothing to worry about at this point if you've only just started getting it a year ago -- it's very normal to go through these changes, even for years. some of my sisters have been abnormal cycles most of their lives
please please don't worry at this point. being your age is hard enough -- don't give yourself more stress about nothing. just enjoy being a girl, ok? (even if this part of it is NOT fun, lots more about being a girl IS fun!!) :-D
rest assured, but if it would make you feel better, call the dr office and at least see if you can talk to a nurse, or call a local nurse helpline

I know going to the Gyn is a very scary experience, I had to go, also, when I was very young. I do want to stress to you how important it is and how much it can help you. I had the same problem that you did, and it can be resolved very easily (unless there's an underlying problem) with birth control pills. They can help to make your cycles more regular and also help with cramping!
Does your mother/caregiver know about this? If not, you really should talk to them about it. You really, really need to go to your Gyn and have this checked out. It's really not healthy to be bleeding that much (and it can make you tired, too). It could also be something more serious, I'm not saying it is - but the only way you will know for certain is to get yourself checked out. You can even call in advance and let them know you're nervous to see if they can make any accommodation's to help you feel more comfortable during your visit.
In case you were worried or heard about the 'duck bill' (the metal piece they use for examination) - they do have smaller ones for more petite and younger patients, so don't worry. :)
You're probably fine, but the only way to know is by seeing a doctor. Waiting can make things worse. If it's just a general irregular period, all it would take is a simple prescription for you to get on track and have a more predictable period.
Good luck and I hope things work out for you, but please go see a doctor!

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I was not regular at your age. My friend had her period for two months and then didn't have it for another 8 months, and then started getting regular.
I've always been very irregular. Even more so at 12. I used to bleed for 10 days straight! But sometimes 4. And never in a predictable pattern.
When I got a little older I got on birth control and it made my period regular. Even now, if I'm not on birth control it's very random.
Not everyone has to deal with it, and your period might straighten out. My friend who was so weird in the begining is like clockwork now. To the day!
And it's true, when you're close to different girls you guys all tend to get on the same schedule. And it can get complicated if you have two different groups of friends who aren't friends with each other. But given time you all end up together. ;)
I don't think you have anything to worry about at all.
Another example: One time I bled for four months, almost straight. That caused slight anemia, but even then the doctors didn't think it was that big of an emergency. That's when I had to get on the birth control to regulate.

Hi, When you first start having your period it can be regular and then irregular, and then no period for a long time and then start again. I have heard of girls starting and stopping having periods 6mos apart more or less. Some never have regular periods, but chances are yours will straighten out. But you should tell someone older that you trust, and don't be embarrassed talking to a woman, as we all go through it. I doubt that you are picking up on your friends cycles.

When you first get your period, it is irregular. It takes a while for your body to get on a cycle, and even then, it won't be exact. Don't worry. Stress, lack of sleep, and unhealthy eating habits also affect your cycle. Just be a 12 yr old, eliminating stress, eating right, and sleeping, and if in a couple of months, you are still very irregular, definitely go to the doctor. Still, do not be afraid. It's just that there could be any # of reasons why it is happening.

I am no doctor by my guess is that nothing is wrong with you. Your body is still adjusting to having a period and all the hormones and stuff. My periods aren't all the same now and i am in my mid twenties. I got my first period when i was 12 and didn't get one again until i was 13. If you are worried you can have your mom ask the doc but i think you sound ok.

This is completely normal. Having an irregular period is not a sign of something wrong with you. It's possible that you and your friends could be getting on the same cycle, but it's most likely that you just have a irregular pattern. Don't stress yourself out. Talk to your mom or another female relative.

Periods are often irregular in the first year or so and you are still very young so I doubt if anything is wrong. However, you need to tell your mother or other trusted woman. And once you start having periods, it's time to have a gynecologist and begin having regular check ups. After you've been there once, you won't be afraid of it.

Don't worry, babe. It just sounds like you are experiencing an irregular period. I had the same thing. Nothing to worry about but it is annoying. I always had to keep pads/tampons on hand because I didn't know when Aunt Flo would decide to show up!! The only thing that got mine on track was going on the pill, but you are too young for that. You should probably go see the gyno, though, just to put your mind at ease.

Have you started playing sports, or a new active activity? This may have something to do with it. Added stress in your life could also have an effect. Have you discussed this with a close female relative? They may have some suggestions for you also. As far as the friends having it when you do, it is VERY normal for friends or co-workers to have their periods at the same time. Hope this helps.
