I am not a supporter or a hater of this Venezuelan leader. I just am curious why we do not try to get along with them since stability in the Hemisphere is so important. I do not pretend to know enough about this issue to make blind comments but it looks like we automatically fear them just because they are "Leftist". What facts am I missing?

the bush administration, not America,is the problem here.
the politics that the administration uses puts them on the other side and gives Hugo the opening to make himself more popular by bashing the u.s.

America isn't fighting with Chavez, and hasn't even suggested that.

American and European companies, which have invested BILLIONS of dollars in Venezuela and incidentally created jobs for the Venezuelan people, may be little bent out of shape over Hugo taking control and title to their plant facilites without compensation, but they also realize that this has to be expected under Communist or Socialist control.

American oil companies have been there since before WW2, when our refineries there were shelled by German submarines. It seems like we have long since paid our dues and have a right to keep those properties and remain in business.

Ok, this question seems to be sincere and deserves an answer.
You make a decent point here my friend, but the USA has to create these big talking "Puppets" in order to distract the USA population from the real problems. The USA has always created these "Monsters" to keep the people in check. If you read Chavez history, you would find the tight connections he had with the USA government. Now he' is just acting. Do you seriously believe that Venezuela would stand a war against the USA? Whether is diplomatic or physical? He's nothing but another "Wag the Dog" cartoon.

You should look up some of the comments Hugo has made about America - including the one where he suggests he would lead the cause to "bringing it down."

Left wing views of a political leader are fine - they have them in Nicauragua and we are not that friendly with them, but they don't try to suspend elections, shut down opposing news agencies and kick political opponents out of the country or threaten them with arrest.

Hugo is a scary person....not all that different then Saddam...he's only been in power about 5 years and Saddam was in charge over 20. Give him time.

Let's see; Chavez has said that he is willing to go to war with the US.
Chavez has nationalized American property and intellectual property.
Chavez is establishing a dictatorship. Should we have supported Hitler in order to have stability?
Chavez is building the largest army in South America even though Venezuela has no enemies.
Chavez is buying old Soviet submarines to use against the US (his words).
Chavez is a clod.

I think you're right, that would be a great idea. But they hate US. not really the other way around. We love them, or rather, we LOVE their oil. I think we're ready to be friends with Chavez and his crazy government just like we're friends with China and their crazy government.
As I said, the only thing holding us back is that they HATE US. Much like most of the rest of the world...since the Bush admin doesn't really know how to play nice with others.

So sad

Elect Hillary and we will.
Hugo is insane and is quickly becoming the next Hitler. Except in my opinion he only wants to control his country. Hillary is for the same types of government he is currently imposing.

We don't fight with him. He hates anything to do with US. Check out just about everything he says. He is one of the worst haters in the world today.

America isn't fighting with Chavez. This is a Chavez vs Bush issue.

How can Chavez not like a nation of people that agree with him. He thinks GWB is a pompous A.H.
