You must read Georgette Heyer, she wrote the best historical romances, mostly regency english setting. She was so clever, be warned, they have romance but no sex. I really recommend The Grand Sophy and Arabella.

Daughter of Venice by Donna Jo Napoli is a really good one. She actually writes mostly fantasy and historical fiction, almost always with romance, so she's my favorite author, haha.

There's also a book I'm reading right now, called The Falconer's Knot, by Mary Hoffman. So far, it's very interesting.

The DeGranville Trilogy by KM Grant is also supposed to be a historical romance. I've read the first two of the trilogy (The Blood Red Horse, and Green Jasper), and they are interesting -they're about the Crusades- but I'm not so sure about the romance....

I wish had more for you, but I also wish I read more historical romance, haha. But you should definitely check out Donna Jo Napoli.

Historical romance novels huh?
I always like to ask people's preferences - even in the realm of historical because there's so many time periods to choose from!
Medeval, go for Virginia Henley and Kinley MacGregor.
Regency, Sally Mackenzie, Lisa Kleypas, Susan Spencer Paul (for a touch of fantasy with your historical) and Margaret Moore are safe bets.
I hope that helps and happy reading!

I'm not a romance-novel fan, but I did read one that was set in I think the 19th century called "Until You" by Judith McNaught.
