The end result will be the same (off the team) but it'll look more dignified and Torre will still get the money he was promised.

Joe Torre's time in New York has come and gone, along with Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and quite possibly Alex Rodriguez. Brian Cashman has his work cut out for him; he has to re-sign the former greats for market value, not what the players think their value is. If Cashman lets some or all of these stars walk, we're going to see a couple things happen. Some owners will overpay the former Yankees and then watch them under perform. Meanwhile, the Yankees will outbid the rest of MLB for some big-name free agents such as Andruw Jones and/or Torii Hunter. Regardless we can close the chapter on this Yankees era.

Not re-signing Torre would be a big mistake for the Yankees. He has been the only Yankees manager I've seen (and I've been a Yankees fan since 1980) who has never allowed his team to get out of control (at least from the outside view) no matter what was going on. 12 straight seasons in the playoffs, you can't argue with that. I may not always like his in-game management, but I see no one out there who can take his place. Torre leaving will probably mean some down years for the Yankees which could spiral into a big mess.

His contract expires this year, so there is nothing to buy out. The Yanks just won't renew it, and that is unfortunate. there was no one better the Yanks could have had the last 12 years. Being a Yankees fan I understand full well that anything less then winning the world series is a losing season, but but as great as they are offesinvily thats how bad they were for pitching, and I don't care who was managing them they were not going to do any better then they did.

Pretty sure that his contract requires the Yankee's to pay him if he doesn't quit. Joe is no dummy, he knows a Yankee manager could be fired at any moment, I'd be shocked if his contract doesn't protect him.

If Joe doesn't come back next year it will because he was pushed out.

How would it look more dignified if the public already knows he's fired?

It will only look dignified on paper, 80 years from now when no one who witnessed this whole mess is around.

If i were the Yankees GM, i would fire Torre to prove a point, and show im in it to win it. Then go after La Rusa. If we didnt get him i would get Joe Girardi, and deal A-Rod

The contract ends after this year. There is nothing to buy out. He isn't getting fired, they just might not resign him. It only looks like he's getting fired because Steinbrenner is delusional.

torre doesn't have a contract after this year.

there was talks of letting him go last year but they didn't want to "give away" 7 million dollars.

my guess is they will not resign him, however my hope is that they will.

The contracts in baseball are guaranteed. So if they fire him they still have to pay him the rest of his contract unless he gets on another team.
