Well, speaking from the experience of being a congressional intern for 8 years throughout high school and college, I can tell you that people treat politicians like royalty. And once they have been treated that way for a while, they start believing it.

Seriously, the old saying - "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" really is the case. People fawn all over politicians like they are super-stars and their egos get inflated and they think they are better than their consitutents. They forget that they are accountable to their constituents...we need to hold them accountable.

Instead, people who are already corrupt seek out power for themselves.
