About seven months ago I was playing softball and got creamed with the ball in my cheek. Of course, it swelled a ton and I had a slight black eye for a few days, but nothing major and I didn't really think anything about it because it wasn't too painful then. Now, if I lean on my hand for more than about 3 seconds I get radiating pains through that side of my face and sometimes when I yawn a lot it starts hurting. Should I just chalk this up to something that will get better eventually or should I go see someone about it? Its really more of nuisance than anything else, but the only thing that I really think is wierd is that it would be hurting seven months later.

I didn't see anyone about it after it happened.

There are several foramina, or openings in the skull through which nerves, arteries and veins traverse. From your description, my guess is that you had trauma to the infraorbital foramen. The infraorbital nerve is a branch of the maxillary division of Cranial Nerve V, or trigeminal nerve. It comes through the infraorbital foramen. Or, you may have fractured the zygomatic arch, and as it healed it pinches one of the related nerves.

Seven months is a long time. Ask your doctor if he or she thinks a referral to a neurosurgeon would be appropriate.

If are worried enough about it you could go see you doctor, the may perscribe some pain killers. Was our face checked by a doctor when you first got hit? if you didn't it might have been some damage to your jaw or cheek bone. Either way talk to a doctor.
