Literature is a humanities course.

The humanities include language, literature, history, philosophy, religion, visual arts, and performing arts among some others.

The Social Sciences include anthropology, economics, education, history, psychology, sociology, geography, poli sci, and communication among some others.

The Sciences include biology, chemistry, physics, geology, oceanography, etc... and math is often included here.

This group together (all three) is called the Liberal Arts (though education and communication are often classed as applied professional studies).
