I think Henley is a shirt, not a girl. Do you dislike this baby that much?

It's a place name (variant of Hanley), so technically unisex, but I've actually only ever heard it used as a masculine name. Also, with the current rise of Henry, I think it's even more likely the VERY similar Henley (only one sound off) will even more likely be assumed male.

I quite like the name -- though again, find it very masculine -- but beware that in the states many will only be familiar with it as a type of shirt. There are certainly worse associations (LOL), but still one you'll want to be aware of.

Edited to add: Yes, Henley does mean "high meadow" -- per some previous comments -- but I fail to see how that's a puzzling or even negative meaning. After all, Hayden (suggested by the same person) means "hay valley." Not sure what they were getting at, in light of that. LOL

Also, Arianna is a modern form of Ariadne, literally taken from the Greek words for "most holy" (from ari, meaning "most," and adnos, meaning "holy"). I think you're confusing meaning with legend, because while Ariadne was the equivalent of a princess in Greek mythology, the name itself has nothing to do with that. Akin to claiming Diana or Isolde mean "princess" simply because there happened to be princesses with those names. LOL A nice association and all, but not one I'd go around touting as the meaning behind my child's name. That's just incorrect.

Well...one of my favorite all time Singer/Songwriters is none other then the incomparable Mr.Don Henley...not only is he an amazingly talented man, but I was fortunate enough as to meet him one time backstage at an Eagles Concert and he was a very kind, respectful and humorous man as well which only strengthened my respect for him as an Artist. However, I don't know that I would name a daughter or a niece after his last name...but then again, the most diplomatic response is that "It entirely depends upon [what] the name actually means...Here's my story. When I was 30 yrs old the world was collapsing around me and I really didn't understand the whole spectrum of the world and where I fit into it...but one night, my Uncle Milton(Native American Choctaw Tribe) told me what my names meant and where they came from. From that night on I found like a new "vision quest" or a new purpose based on a newly awakened ability to really identify with certain aspects of my heritage, my history and what potential I ignored or repressed and left laying dormant inside of me. Before going with Henley or any other name, I strongly suggest you research every possible choice for a name that you come up with and then one day you can have the same conversation with your daughter that my Uncle had with me and maybe it will give her the renewed strength, hope and validity that I experienced...in this day n' age, EVERY LITTLE THING to give our children strength and hope is worth the effort...a person's NAME being one of the most important indeed...so go to the Public Library and research those names I think you'll be really glad that you did...I hope that I helped you in your decision...

I like it better for a girl than a boy, actually.

But what about spelling:
Hanley or Hanlee?

It's original but not my fave.

The N and the L next to each other just don't seem that pretty...

What about:
Harlee
Hartley
Hailey
Hailyn
Haven
Hartree
Hannie
Haidee
Hadley
Hettie
Holly
Harcourt
Hastaway
Hayes
Hallen
Haywood
Harper
Harlow
Hawley
Heaton
Honor
???

Henley could certainly suit the right child though.

Henley is the name of a style of casual men's shirt, as well as an aging rocker from the Eagles, not a sweet baby girl. Try again- less trendy this time!

Congrats on the baby!

Honest? A bit masculine. When I first saw your question, I was thinking of a henley shirt.

Haile or Hayden. Henley means High Fields what is that about?? I have an ARIANNA/ARIADNE and SANAIA, arianna means princess and holy and sanaia means bright. my sanaia has a smile that lights up the place and my arianna acts like a little princess. names can determine your baby's mood (i think anyways) so choose carefully.
